Tui Na Oriental Bodywork is an ancient technique practiced as one of the branches of Chinese Medicine. Along with acupuncture, moxabustion, herbs, diet and qi gong, Tui Na is a method with which to reduce pain, gain greater mobility, and promote healing by strengthening deficiency, dispersing excess and reorganizing qi. This is achieved by applying specific hand techniques to affected and related areas and systems of the body as per the same 5 elements and 12 meridians that acupuncture is based upon.
As with acupuncture, I employ pulse and tongue diagnosis, palpation, and deep inquiry into the experience and nature of you, the patient. You remain fully clothed at all times and either sit or lie on the treatment table. The hand techniques are a customized and rhythmic blend of vigorous, superficial, slow and deep. Joints are invited into better alignment with motions that promote the free flow of qi throughout, and acupressure points are stimulated manually to support all of you. The experience can be invigorating, refreshing and relaxing.
Tui Na is offered as either an adjunct to acupuncture, or, if requested, as an alternative. Tui Na offers great results on small children or others who prefer bodywork to needles. The diagnostic method and intention are the same as with acupuncture, and in combination with it, add a dynamic thrust to an acupuncture treatment. Like acupuncture, Tui Na can be used to address all manner of dis-ease of the body/mind/spirit, while maintaining and promoting existing areas of ease.
Tui Na Sessions:
In the treatment room I employ a holographic approach. This means that I view every part of you as containing all the information of all of you. In the treatment room I apply this principle by working on what might seem as unrelated parts of the body. I spend a considerable amount of time working areas that are away from or “distal” to the pathology. These areas could be anywhere else on your body. The effect is profound and sustainable.
