Acupuncture is a healing art which originated in China over five thousand years ago.  The ancients recognized man as a microcosm of nature -- an expression of the same energies that govern the landscape.  A system of medicine then came into being that applied the dynamics of the elements and the cyclical movement of the seasons to all aspects of human life.

Recreating Harmony

When we observe nature, we notice that it is always in motion - changing, adapting and transforming.  Although man is capable of the same movement, we seem to have a tendency to get stuck.  We fall into patterns - be it our attitudes, lifestyles or attachments.  It is from this “stuckness” that our suffering, dis-ease and inability to heal stems.  Only when we are able to recreate and maintain the same movement that nature displays, can we experience and maintain harmony and well being.

Rivers of Energy

As an acupuncturist, I view every individual and all aspects of body/mind/spirit as an expression

of the same energies that manifest as the elements of nature—water, wood, fire, earth and metal.  These energies flow through us like rivers, and can be accessed by stimulating specific points on the body with small disposable needles or with mild heat.  Points are like gates which may need to be freed up in order to swing open and closed appropriately.  This regulates the flow of energy or “qi” (pronounced chee) along these rivers of energy or “meridians.”  When these meridians of qi flow smoothly, body/mind/spirit’s innate ability to heal is awakened.

The Acupuncture Process

As practitioner I treat the whole individual rather than merely addressing a symptom.  Generally, symptoms are a manifestation of a deeper imbalance and are therefore viewed as an important clue into a disharmony.  Although results can be experienced immediately, it is often recommended that new patients come in for treatment once a week for six to ten weeks.  With this time period, old energies patterns can be gently released, and movement re-established.  After the initial series of treatments, patients often decide to continue on monthly or seasonally as part of their continued wellness program.  Regardless of how often individuals decide to get treated, those who make a commitment to their healing process and follow through with it are the ones who usually experience the greatest movement in the least amount of time.

The Patient as Healer

Acupuncture is a powerful, time tested tool.  Practitioners have had great success treating individuals for thousands of years.  The real beauty behind this work though, lies in a patient’s willingness to apply the gentle principles of this art form to their everyday lives — to cultivate their own wellness.  Aside from using needles, I facilitate this by educating and offering insights based on

these principles.  This enables you, the patient, to create your own movement outside the

treatment room.  Here lies the true essence of healing and what I ultimately strive for:  You become empowered, and are able to take responsibility for your own healing process.

Acupuncture treatment deals with subtle energies.  to get the most out of a session and to insure accurate diagnoses, please pay attention to the following on the day of your treatment:
